Comments: Hi! I came across your site and loved all your photos of the Snow White Grill in Winchester, VA. I work at the tourism department in Winchester, and I'm featuring the diner in a retro road trip to get folks to visit Winchester. Would you be willing to share a photo? I see the caption says "photo by Phil" Let me know what you think - thanks! Renee Bayliss Winchester-Frederick County Visitors Center.

Comments: Red Bridges BBQ in Shelby, NC had a sign on the door yesyerday 3-19-12, that read: " Closed No More BBQ ". This seems to be a serious problem for a BBQ Joint. Please tell your readers not to confuse Red Bridges BBQ with a place called Alston Bridges BBQ also in Shelby, NC. They only sell expensive, nasty tasting, Faux-Que. Please tell northerners that come south and open BBQ joints, that real BBQ does not come out of a pot of boiling water.

How did you hear about this site? I was looking to see if Blue Collar Joe's, a coffee and donut shop near Roanoke, was open on Sunday.
What did you like about this site? You're right. You do have several little known/undiscovered places....I thought Bridges BBQ was the biggest BBQ secret in NC, one of my favorite places for 25 years or more..
What did you not like about this site? No complaints - it's a wonderful site, a great idea. You mention your love for BBQ, but list only one place in Memphis, which, in my humble opinion, has more great BBQ places concentrated in one place than any other.....There are a dozen (dozens ?) that would/should be on many Top Ten +/- BBQ joints. Also, I didn't see Arthur Bryant's so you apparently haven't been to KC yet..... I'm also into Catfish if you're ever looking for a good catfish joint...

What did you like about this site? Looks fine to me.. I love reading about locally owned/operated businesses. That is what makes a town stand out. It ain't the McDonald's or Burger King, but the local hangout that serves up the best food.

Comments: Great site! I have one suggestion on a GREAT BBQ place. It's Holcomb's BBQ in White Plains, GA. It's a tiny little town not far from Athens, GA it has sawdust floors and picnic tables inside. The owner is my aunt and uncle and I know they would love for you to come by and try them out. They also have a location in Greensboro, GA but the one in White Plains is the original and it's worth the drive. It's off of I-20 in Greene County, Georgia. Trust me you will love it.

Guess i'm a purist !

I built mine from scratch and copy/paste work with html commands that I "borrowed;" but, I never learned any 'java' workings...I would love to have the ability to sell T-shirts/stickers online to "non-locals" that discover us on the web! I know that I could pay big money to a web designer for a simple html/shtml page to upload to my site, but I figured that sooner or later I would 'hook-up' with a friend that would create me the afore mentioned! ...Let me know, I'll send you comments soon...take care, and thanks! -George

Comments: Great list! We were just visiting in NC and had lunch at the Tarheel Q! It was very tasty! For lunch in Virginia Beach, try the Princess Anne County Grill for a great BBQ sandwich. It's located in the VB farmers market. Pungo Pizza & Ice Cream another local fav ... also worth a stop! If heading north of VAB, the Eastern Shore of VA has some great little places. Sting Ray's north of the bridge-tunnel (13 N) is a local secret and all their food is great! There's the Exmore Diner on Rt 13 N on the business 13 loop (Great breakfasts/diner food) In Allentown, Pa try Willy Joes for a great dog ... and order yours "wit"!
How did you hear about this site? was looking up the Tarheel Q and found your site.
What did you like about this site? Places sound interesting ... good "Mom & Pop" style.
What did you not like about this site? Would like to see it expanded lots more ... You could include the best regional favorites in other food catagories, like little breakfast places and tasty seafood joints. If you could begin listing some good local independent restaurants in those different catgories, and then concentrate on one interesting area at a time.

(www.pic-n-pig.com) The restaurant is on the owners private airstrip so folks can fly in for a $100 plate of Q. The food is great and the place has a great laid back atmosphere. Comments: Unbeknownst to me, I have recently (in one trip) dined at *two* places on your site -- Neely's BBQ, and Griffith and Feils Soda Foundain. Did you know that Neely's also has a place in Nashville TN? It's on Rosa Parks Blvd, and the food is the same awesome menu as the Memphis site. Also, have you checked out Loveless Cafe in Nashville? It may be too famous to mention on this site, but it's a *very* worthy site for true Southern cooking and the best scratch biscuits you'll ever find in a restaurant.

I like Pitt Boss okay but I LOVE Henry's and they have been around longer. Henry's meat and ribs are more tender and have a better smoked flavor and their sauces are better too. How did you hear about this site? Good variety of places and foods.
What did you like about this site? Be sure to check out Bill's Hot Dogs, voted best in the country time and again, in Washington, NC. Two locations, just a walk in place, they boil the red dogs in oil, which makes them really hot, then put on the yellow mustard, onions, and special white chili (supposedly meat free, it contains some secret veggie or spice that makes your mouth burn for 30 seconds then after you eat it, with a cold coke, you gotta have another. People line up out the door for these thru the day. Last time I was there they were 80 cents. No fries, bottle coke (the other location has a fountain) and chips. Also check out Boss Hogs BBQ in Washington NC or Greenville - one of the best. And B's BBQ, in Greenville, old gas station, the smell will bring you in.

Comments: Enjoyed your site, I too like finding good non-chain restaurants with some history associated with them. The best barbecue place I've run into is King's Barbecue on Crater Road in Petersburg, VA. I always stop when going south on I-95 since it's less than a mile off the interstate at the Wagner Road exit. Too many places sell barbecue that tastes like it came from a supermarket. Their's is real pit cooked. The minced (my favorite) has just the right amount of fat and skin mixed in to make it special. The sauce is the best I've ever had. They also put the sandwich on a hot press so the bread is warm and the sandwich is kinda flattened. A minced sandwich with slaw and sauce is out of this world. Ask if they have any cracklins which is the skin. They are very greasy but very good since they are still hot and have some meat on them. The onion rings are better than I've had anywhere else, the real deal not frozen.
How did you hear about this site? King's also has terrific apple pie. I don't usually get excited about apple pie but their's is homemade, served hot and the crust is covered in sugar and cinnamon. My wife always makes me bring one home. Order it with ice cream. The building is 1956 vintage and it has a 1960's feel to the interior. Their website is www.kingsfamousbarbecue.com If you don't like minced with some skin in it, you can order an "inside sliced" sandwich or plate, that is just pure inside meat with not skin or fat. Biscuits and BBQ beans real good as well
What did you like about this site? Gives me a heads up on interesting local places to visit for lunch or dinner.

Comments: Love the site! There are a couple of places in Smithfield, NC that you need to check out. Cricket's hot dogs on Main Street. All the way is with chili, mustard and onion. I have to go to Cricket's every time I visit home from Atlanta. The other is Holt Lake Barbeque. Great chopped pork with vinegar sauce, great slaw, and sweet tea they bring to you in a pitcher.
How did you hear about this site? My sister sent me a link because she knows I love hot dogs!

Comments: now this is a great website. I've been to a few of your spots, and now I've got many more to visit. I live in Newport News, but also have a place in Madison county. Kids at UVa and JMU. You might consider a trip to Newport News to visit Papou Georges Hot Dogs, located on Oyster Point Road. The only place I've been where you can get freshly-made potato chips. Also, the original Hot Dog King in midtown NN is choice. Please don't forget the Gus Burger at the White Spot in Cville. Great website Doug Nelson

Comments: I love your site. I used to travel a good deal right after law school appearing in about 70 of the 100 NC counties. Every time I went to court in a town I always asked the courtroom deputies about the best local hot dog or hamburger or BBQ joint. Most referrals were great. Send me an email and I'll give you the ones I remember (probably about 20 that you don't already have). If you are a Cavalier fan like me (my son is a double Hoo) I am surprised you haven't included the White Spot at The Corner: the best hamburger with fried egg in the English speaking world.
How did you hear about this site? Stumbled across it in Google looking for the call-ahead number for the Char Grill here in Raleigh.
What did you like about this site? The pictures. The way these places look are a part of my heritage just like the food.
What did you not like about this site? You don't link em to a Google Map. Think they would they charge you. Probably. Bastards. Also, an attached forum would be fun.
