Comments: did want to share with you that I had a visit from Mark yesterday. I was outside, hosing off the driveway and was reminiscing on times in high school with Mark. All of a sudden, I see this huge thing flying, and it was a dragonfly!! It freaked me out at first (because I am not so much the outdoors, nature person ~ believe it or not)!! Then I stood there and just smiled and cried. I never see them and to see one yesterday, I felt, was really, truly Mark! Then poor Tom came out and was like ~ what's wrong?!?! My response was - I just saw a dragonfly. He gave me an odd look, and that's when I realized he didn't know what I was talking about!

Comments: I just read your last post on Mark's website and absolutely loved it! It just goes to show that as much as Mark touched so many lives in such a huge and lasting way, his Mom has as well, and still continues to. That is so great! How nice of your sister to get that together for you. I hope you had a good Mother's Day yesterday. I still think about you and the whole family all of the time, and still read every post on the website. Mark will always be very special to me. I find myself talking about him a lot to my friends out here (which none of them would have known him), and do think of him very often. Always in such a positive way. He really was one of greatest guys I've ever known. Just such a loyal friend, so passionate about his sports, truly adored and respected his family, and was just a really wholesome good-hearted person. Mostly because he was raised by such good people. This just goes to show, that even though Mark may not physically be here to make us laugh and smile, he will always be here. No one will ever forget Mark. I like to think that he is watching over me, and that he can hear me when I talk to him. And I like to think that I know what he would say back. I used to be scared that I would start to only remember Mark for what took his life, but now when I think of him, I can hardly remember a whole lot of details of him being sick. Probably partly because it's just too painful to think about, but mostly because I choose to remember him as I knew him best, throughout highschool, full of life and just young and happy. As much as it hurts me to read some of your posts where you seem to not understand why this had to happen to Mark and the overall pain and missing him seems to be consuming your thoughts for that particular day, when I read posts like this past one, it is so nice to know that you can realize how much of a positive impact, or in the case of Marc, life changing impact, you have had on so many people as well.

Comments: My Mom, she tells a lot of lies, she never did before. From now until she dies, She’ll tell a whole lot more. Ask my Mom how she is and because she can’t explain, she will tell a little lie because she can’t describe the pain. Ask my Mom how she is, ahe’ll say, "I’m alright". If that’s the truth, then tell me, why does she cry each night? Ask my Mom how she is, ahe seems to cope so well. She didn’t have a choice you see, doesn't have the strength to yell. Ask my Mom how she is, "I’m fine, I’m well, I’m coping". For God’s sake Mom, just tell the truth, just say your heart is broken. She’ll love me all her life, I loved her all of mine. But if you ask her how she is, She’ll lie and say she’s fine. I am Here in Heaven. I cannot hug from here. If she lies to you don’t listen, Hug her and hold her near. On the day we meet again, what a joyous site to behold! And I’ll say, "You’re lucky to even get in here, Mom, with all the lies you've told!"

Comments: I am sorry for your loss and will be praying for you and your family. I think it is a good idea that you go on the trip! You will enjoy your time together remembering Mark. Andy went to First Baptist church last night to watch Alana in the Vacation Bible School show and he said he saw you and Don. He said he was about to go talk to you and the show started. He wanted me to tell you hello and that he thinks about Mark all the time. Hope to see you soon...let me know if you make a trip up to the bar in the future, I would love to meet you!

Comments: Hi Barb! I just saw the message! Mark always had a way to make me smile. He taught me how to hit a golf ball (well his technique - which really hurt my hands). Also, I was supposed to be part of the fam... It was funny - I am in FLorida right now and I saw a dragonfly yesterday and it wouldn't leave me alone. I knew it was Mark. But on top of that, Michael Jackson passed away. Mark and I always listened to Thriller! I am sure Mark is jamming to Thriller tonight and many other nights now! Here is one of the messages that ALWAYS makes me happy! "hows the golf coming along?.. i will be able to teach full time at the end of aug..causethat when i move back home....then that way we can get married" Miss you Mark! Save me some Ice Cream!

Comments: Hi Barb, I sent the windchime & dragonfly clips! My name is Julia Eason, my husband James worked with Mark at the Golf Discount on Hacks Cross. Mark was my favorite Co-Worker of James' because he was always so nice to me & our son Chip when we visited or called. He had such a fun personality. He also liked my deviled eggs - which I made for him on a few occasions! I started reading your blog when Mark was sick, and have continued reading it ever since. I think you & your family are such kind and loving people - even though we have never met, I feel like I know you through your posts. My husband & I saw the windchime while we were shopping & I immediately thought of you. I hope it made you happy! That definitely was the intention! I wanted you to know that Mark and your family's love for each other has left an impression on us that we will always remember.

Comments: I saw the message below. I went back through my messages from Mark on MySpace and I unfortunately don't have a ton. Here is one he sent me on 5/4/07 at 3:18am "HEY BABY,SUNDSY GONNA BE REA;L TOUGH FOR ME.. MY BLOOD COUNT ARE WAY DOWN RIGHT NOW..IM STILL IN THE DAY 2 DAY RANGE." I was coming in town I think and was hoping to take him to a Cardinals Game, but he didn't think he could make it. He really wanted to go, but it just wasn't possible at that point. Unfortunately, the older messages have auto-deleted overtime and I didn't realize it. Darn!

And someone from the bank placed a dragonfly charm in the pot the next day. I had thought I was going crazy, but others noticed it too. I now have a permanant reminder of Mark in the office!

Comments: Hi Barb, I just wanted to let you know that I find much comfort reading your entries on Mark's web site. I know that it is sorta silly but I kinda feel like I know him even though we never meet. He probable wonders who is this stranger that stands over his grave praying. I also find comfort in the fact that even as the years have past your son still has family and friends that come to visit him regularly. (Not that I have ever seen them but I can tell by the items left befind) Well this last week has been quite difficult for me. Steven has been gone for 4 months now but it seems like a life time ago. Some of his close friends have just graduated from high school and have recently had birthdays. These were events that he should have attended. I guess in a way he was there because he will always be in our hearts. Hopfully Steven's marker will be installed soon. It's easy to tell you where he is now. He is in the section where the big tree fell last Wednesday. His head stone will be the only slant face in this section. When I was there the other night and I seen 2 foxes playing on the hill side were they pile up dirt. I know that Steven would enjoy seeing them. Well I also wanted to let you know that I think of you often as I am now in the process of planting my Steven Garden. It seems that every time I come across a dragonfly it has a different meaning for me. When I see one it reminds me of your unconditional love for your son. May the Holy Spirit give us strength. Diane

Comments: Hi Barb...so I went up to Chicago to visit Lisa this past weekend. The first morning I was there I woke up thinking about dragonflies. I started thinking to myself.. "Mark, I hope you come visit us today sometime. I just want you to say Hi". Lisa and I were at Wrigley Field that day for a Cubs game (first time in Wrigley for me and it was a blast). It wasnt too long after we got there when we both saw a dragonfly right above us. It was awesome!! Just wanted to share that with you. I know these next few weeks are a hard time of the year but I just wanted to let you know I still think about Mark and your family all the time.

Comments: Hi Barb! I haven't posted on here for a while, but it's not because I haven't been thinking of you and Mark! I was in Europe for almost two weeks and had a great time! Please give John and Mick my best and congratulate them on their tremendous accomplishments! Also, I had a funny story for you. I was contemplating deleting my myspace account today. I don't ever use it anymore and think it would be best to probably just get rid of it. As I was about to delete it, I realized that there was one reason I have to keep it....Mark. I have old messages from him that I will lose forever if I delete my profile and I realized, I am just not ready for that to happen. Although technology can sometimes fail you (ie: my cell phone dropping in the toilet that had his text messages and pictures), sometimes it is a great source of memories (ie: through this website and through myspace). Thank you for keeping up this website through the past few years, Barb. It is a remarkable memoir of the journey that you (and Mark) have been through and the incredible life he fought hard to lead. Love you and I will stop by next time I am in town!

Comments: I don't know if my mom and dad told you I was in Memphis this past weekend for a bachelor party, but I have a "Mark" story for you. I was down there for a bachelor party for one of my best friends. His younger brother is the best man, but he couldn't make it because of a broken ankle, so I planned the whole thing. There were nine of us there. Late Saturday night (around 12:30am), the other 7 guys were tired and went to bed, but the groom-to-be wanted to stay out and walk around beale, so I said I would stay with him. Around 2:30am it started to absolutely POUR down rain, and we were stuck. Everyone else on the street ran for cover or a cab, but we said screw it. It was nice out, and we were having a good time. As we were slowly walking our way back up beale towards our hotel, my friend had to stop to use one of the johnny-on-the spots. I stood there in the middle of deserted Beale St. by myself just waiting for my friend....in a torrential downpour. I looked down the street at the cool lights and signs on Beale, and wondered how many times Mark had down the same thing. Right then, I almost got knocked over from behind by this stumbling guy. He just kept walking, but turned around and said to me in his southern draw....... "Whatup Cuz?" I knew this was just slang, and may have been his way of saying sorry, but it definately made my weekend. I am not sure, but I think I may have tried to call you right then, thinking maybe you were working. My friend came out of the bathroom, and I made him drink one more beer with me in the rain on Beale before we headed home. Anyway......thought you would like that story.
