Comments: I loved your dream. I hope you remember it always! I had a funny dream after my parents died - they died 4 months apart. Very hard! Anyway, I dreamed my mom and I were on a park bench in National Cemetery, holding hands and talking. I was so glad to see her. All of a sudden, I remembered that she had died and yet here we were together. I laughed and said, "Mom, you're here! How's heaven? She laughed and said, "How would I know!" And then it was over. But it wasn't a bad dream - it was just funny. My mom was funny and it made me know that everything was OKAY! I know your Mark is okay, too, as do you. Take care!

Comments: Mark used to joke with me that I was out of job b/c they already cured cancer... and I would simple respond that I am so so glad. I hope one day this is true! Mark knew that the reason I am so passionate about cancer research is largely b/c of him. He inspires me daily and whenever I need motivation, there always is a little reminder from Mark of why I am doing what I do. I have a picture of Mark on my desk in the lab and it reminds me daily to keep fighting cancer in his memory. So, dont just believe it, KNOW that Mark is my inspiration.

Through experience, it is so true, so hard to do, but so necessary to move forward. I am always looking for phrases and words to help me get through past and present situations. I think I have told you this prase before. Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain. Moving forward is like dancing in the rain. Mark is proud and wants you to dance. Thoughts and prayers always, Kris

Two of them were wedding rings, and they belonged to an old friend of mine and his wife. I looked at the inscription of the other two, and they were rings from high school. They belonged to Jonathan Hearst and Mark. That was when I woke up. I'm still trying to figure out what that meant.

I was at the Air and Water Show in Lincoln Park and there were dragonflies everywhere! I am not sure if it is the sound of the planes that makes them go crazy, but they were everywhere. I just kept wondering, 'Which one is Mark??' Never quite figured it out, but I am sure he was there with me somewhere!

It was a gorgeous day outside and all of the sudden dark storm clouds moved through. They ended up passing over and as the sun started to shine through I saw a dragonfly fly right past me. I can honestly say, that in the seven years that I have lived in Chicago, I don't think I have ever seen one before. It's times like that when I am the most happy that he is okay, but the most sad because I really do miss him! Also, thank you for continuing the site....I know that there are still so many people who continue to follow it on a daily/weekly basis. I am sure that if the cost goes up, we'll cover it somehow!! Comments: First off let me say Mark's garden is absolutely beautiful! Secondly, I forgot to RSVP for Coach Heyde's party! I feel so bad...My best friend, Val is Ben Silhavy's g/f and she told me about it and I completely spaced it. I feel bad for my son b/c I loved coach...I wanted my son to be able to know him as a coach but I knew that was a long shot and now it won't happen but still he is a great man! I wish him all the best with his retirement.

Comments: Okay I am guilty. I have not visited this site in months. Can't remember the last time I left a message. But Barb is right. I am one of those family members who has found other ways to deal with Mark's death. I have learned to deal with it the best I can. I doubt I will ever totally accept it. My wish is for some day to be able to visit Mark's grave. I have not been able to do that. I have tried, many times. I know if the day ever comes that I go there I will not be able to go alone. I am sorry to my sister for not always having the time to talk, visit, write. I sometimes selfishly forget the void that has been left for you. I love you

Comments: Barb, as I read your entry about all of your dragonfly items, I realized that my parents have an interesting dragonfly item in their house. A few years ago, while I was away at college, they re-decorated my bathroom. The shower curtain has little dragonflies all over it, as well as the hooks for it are dragonflies. The towels even have them on it, too. So, don't feel too bad about the sink stopper--my old bathroom at my parents is decorated in dragonflies!

Comments: I am a stranger, but I wanted you to know how much your site means to me. Mark died not long after a friend lost her son (a toddler, unfortunately...cherish all of those years!). I read your site to gain some insight into how she must be feeling, and it really helps me know how to support her. I think of you often....you have support from people you don't even know!! Take care of yourself.

Comments: Barb, Your garden looks awesome! The new pictures really show how amazing it is. The one picture you had before really didn't show how big it is and how much work you and Don have put into it. The stepping stone is only a small gift from us, but I am glad you like it. We love you!

Comments: Hey Barb, Sorry I wasn't able to write to you or get a message posted yesterday. Was over in the Tampa area doing a presentation for (who else?) nurses. In working with these nurse educators, there were plenty of Barb stories from way back when on 7400. Not easy to always step back in time for those stories, but from the reaction of the nurses, they got something from it. This, too, is a pretty good reflection of how you've chosen to live life now: using unpleasant losses to help others into a positive future. The whole RIP thing? Pretty obvious Mark is at peace now-but it's sooo awesome you're living in peace now, too. Be well...Love Always, Marc

Comments: Although I visit Mark's site often, I've never left a message because I have never known quite what to say. I only had the pleasure of meeting Mark on a couple of occasions, but the stories I have heard the past year from some of his friends has inspired me to stay connected to the person behind these stories- and this website has provided just that. I keep you in my thoughts and paryers this and every day and hope that you find peace in knowing that Mark is taking care of you from above.

Comments: Mom Dewalle: It was both of our decisions for me not to go in and see Mark that Sunday night. You had warned me that he did not have much time at all and how bad he looked, then you asked me if I wanted to see him... I did so much want to see him, fearing/knowing that it would be for the last time, but then I remember the last time I saw him... and he was smiling...He still looked like Mark (for the most part). You recommended that it may not be best, and I appreciated that. We both decided that you were right at that time. Looking back, I would have liked the chance to hold his hand and to let him know that I was there, but I probably would have closed my eyes so that I could remember him how I now choose to remember him...How I hope everyone can remember him...happy, healthy, handsome and full of life.

Comments: Hi DeWalle's - I am thinking about you all today. I wish that I could have been there with you all last night. I have been thinking about when Barb called me last year at this time and both the sadness and relief I felt that Mark was finally at peace. More than anything, I have thought of all the hard times that Mark has helped me get through over the course of the past year. I know he is with me, he's with us all. Anytime I am scared, I think of him and how brave he was, how he remained in control until the end, and I know that I can make it though whatever. I wish you all a day of peace. Love, Lisa

I did not know Mark very well b/c he was a year or so ahead of me but I feel like I've known him forever! He was so very loved by everyone that he came into contact with. I hope you feel peace and comfort tonight with Mark (dragonflies).

Comments: I don't very often send a message to Mark's website -even though I think of him everyday. It is hard for me to put in words how I feel. However, these are days that bring back many memories of the grandson I love so much and I want everyone to know his life meant so much to me. When looking back over the past year I experienced feelings of sadness, while at the same time I can smile remembering all the wonderful moments I shared with him. I love talking to his Mother about him and how he made so many others happy. During the past weeks I felt comfort and strength just thinking how brave and courageous he was and how he showed what true love is for his family and friends. Mark, you will always be a part of my life - I love you!! Grandma Joyce

Comments: This week we have shared your memories, hurts, tears and stories. Looking back is bittersweet but so necessary for the soul. May you feel Mark's spirit and the arms of God around you. I hope and pray it helps a little to know that others share your pain and were honored to be apart of Mark's life.
