Just googled and came up with this site. What a coincidence as just 2 nights ago Andy Arnold (LTjg) and I were reflecting
on our Concord days.
We remembered Chief Lay,Chuck Totten, and others who kept us out of harms way during our OOD watches....And also Nick Ciafardini
who drove us around in the Captains car from bar to bar!! I still keep up with several of the officers that were on the Concord
with me. Sad to report that Thomas Hohlweck, LTjg, was killed on Sept 11th in the World Trade Center. |

Came aboard in Athens, Greece in 1970. It was Christmas. Worked with a great team in the S-3 Division and on the Special Sea
and Anchor Detail and as a Fireman on the Helo deck. Some names of fellow shipmates; Randy Vick, Bruce Beatty, Ira Shrauger,
Dave Gabryszewski, Billy Glidewell, Alan Stasack, Dan Lowry. What a great adventure for a young man just out of high school.
Places to remember;Palma, Scotland, Naples, Athens, Valleta,
Rhodes to name a few. Some really great memories; Flying with the helicopter crew from on deck to the Navy store in Naples.
Trap shooting and barbeques on the fan tail. Working in the ships laundry with Bruce Beatty and Billy Glidewell. Randy Vick
was a close shipmate along with Dave Gabryszewski and Ira Shrauger. A great adventure indeed! |

One of the greatest experiences in my life was to serve aboard Concord. The Med cruises were unforgetable,especially 1986.
Rome,Malaga,Naples,Paris,& a few others. I am at a loss for words. I am proud to call all of you my shipmates. You guys are
the best. We went thru good and bad times onboard. Kicked ass in Gitmo,partied hard in Aruba! I am saddened to hear about
what they plan on doing to our beloved ship this year or next. Is there anyway of obtaining a small momento from her before
they sink her? I would like to know. I would also like to know where her homeport is now so I can go visit her to relive old

Worked in Deck for about 6 months. Became designated as a PNSN and worked in Personnel until departing to shore duty in 87.
The Concord showed me the WORLD! I cranked in the Chiefs Mess. BMCM Cheeks, the boats Command Master Chief was the coolest.
None like him since. I like others will never forget my first ship, the ole Concord. I've since retired and was in the Pentagon
on 9/11. I survived but of course, many didn't. I've tried finding ole shipmates from the Concord, but never had any luck.
Maybe this time I will. So many, many fond memories that there are to too many to recall. After 5 med cruises, I suppose
