I'm pretty sure that "Teach Your Kids to Break the Rules" article left a bad taste in my mouth. Certifiably disgusting.
I remember making mistakes as a kid and adolescent, but inviting wrong living doesn't make sense to me. "Be certain to teach
your younglings how, when and why to lie." This is basically unbelievable. I just watched an episode of 'The Office' and
I was feeling happy and joyful, but then I read this... |

Wow! It's hard enough to teach kids to behave and grow up to be moral people without actually teaching and encouraging them
to lie and cheat. Why would anyone purposely do that to their children? I think it's much more important to teach them right
from wrong, so they have the confidence to stand up for what they believe is right, when they encounter situations in the
world that are wrong. It's our job as parents to give them the tools they need to do what is right, not what will get them
ahead in the world! |

It is more than eye opening to hear Gods' Word put into context.
If you're like me you're always reading the Bible for its meaning which means you look at each individual word and what it
means and how it might apply to your life. It can to likened digging thru that haystack in search of the treasured needle
when in truth the treasure is the haystack.
Thank you Drew for showing us how to step back, look at the bigger picture, putting Gods' word in a better perspective and
in its proper context.

Hello! I am still in Bucharest, Romania working at a school here. As many of you may know, children tend to pass around
germs. And in fact we've had many students out of school.
Something must be going around.
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in sending some vitamin C along this way. I had something specific in mind.
An American family working for the Ministry of Defense informed me about these: "Emergen-C Vitamin C packets." They are
found at Wal-Mart supposedly and are these effervescent packs of Vitamin C.
That would be totally great and useful. You can shoot me an email if you need my address too. Thanks! |

His 101: Bart Ehrmans Misquoting Jesus
I am in a discussion with a collegue about our statement of belief-"We believe that the Bible is Gods inerrant word, and
has been given to us as our source for truth and instruction in this life. We seek to not only believe in what the Bible
says, but also act accordingly."
He recommended I read it and I want to do so just to be informed and educated about where he is coming from in his beliefs.

I was at an Orientation on Tuesday night for a Women's Ministry in Fulton that I am soooo excited about!!!!! There is a center
in Fulton, Jefferson City, and Columbia if any of you are so curious and are looking for something productive and eternal
to do on your lunch breaks or any other times that work best for you. The national headquarters website is http://www.centerforwomensministries.org/philosophy.html.....just
in case anyone is curious. That isn't the homepage-but you can navigate from there. That particular page is the philosophy
and has the Center's statement of faith which was important for me to know before getting involved.
Okay-so none of that is my point in this blog. During the training the leader made a few comments that were so simple and
yet had such a profound impact on me and I felt compelled to share them. They were said in the context of the training I was
taking but the comments apply so well to our daily lives as believers.
1. On the topic of gossip and confidentiality... "If it is not true, if it is not kind, if it is not necessary, it is not
said." Jewel Holt-Director of the Center for Women's Ministry, Fulton.
2. "We are responsible for God's reputation." Jewel Holt
Just let those sink in for a minute. They both had a huge impact on me and the second one made me really stop and think-wow
we have such a big responsibility. Jesus is no longer walking the earth for everyone to look at and see God. Jesus lives
in each of us and the world looks to us to find Jesus. We are God's reputation! What an honor and responsibility.
Have a great day! |

Okay, I think that we can all agree that music sets the mood for any occasion and motivates us all one way or another...so
yes I have upbeat christian music on my IPOD, when I start my runs it's uplifting and it prompts me to look around and see
all the scenery and be thankful for a God that created such a masterpiece! However as I get to the 2nd half of my run I will
admit there may be some late 90's hip hop and 80's hairband music to get me thru (I really love Def Leopard ;-). I always
end my workout to Newsboys 'I am free' at which time I 'dance it out'. And all I have to say about Technotronic girls is..."Pump
up the Jam!!!" |

Stephanie, You read my mind. I haven't heard of those bands by name-unless I have heard their songs and not known it. I listen
to www.air1.com out of California and maybe the play them...
Anyway-I was just thinking that it would be awesome if someone could tell me all the songs that had fast beats to run to and
I could make it a playlist for my IPOD. I currently don't have any "Christian" (the second kind) music on my running playlist
(think M.C. Hammer, Technotronics-don't laugh-it is great to run to) and Lindsay has worship songs on her running playlist
(not poking fun Lindsay-just making a point we need both need something great to jam to for our next run-especially if we
are going to survive!) So...Steph-if you recommend me about 20 really fast, upbeat songs I will make you a huge baked sweet
potato and buy you a tub of butter to go with it! Pretty, please? |

That Rick Reilly bit was great. I loved it.
My last day before Christmas vacation I went with an American family to an orphanage they have their "mission" at and we helped
them with their Christmas. We gave these children, of all ages, a small meal, with drinks and presented each of them with
presents intricately wrapped.
All of these gifts were given to them by name and it was something each of them had requested. We gave away roller blades,
dolls, CD players, and remote controlled cars. And the orphans loved it. Some of them have been there their entire lives.
Some of them are younger, say about 4 years old, and still others were 17 and 18 years old. They don't seem exactly sure
what their future holds, but they definitely enjoy living day to day and having people come spend time and give attention.
Rick Reilly kind of reminded me of that. |

I want to say what a GREAT service the candle light service was on Christmas Eve.The candle light set just the right mood
for the evening worship for the eve of Jesus's birthday. It was great to see so many attend from the looks of the rsvp didn't
seem many would be there. Apple Cider was the best, have to get her receipt for that, the one who decorated the preztle sticks
took alot of time with those and every one was enjoying them, there were so many good items to pick from so many talents displayed.
Thank you for providing such a nice table for all to enjoy. I have been talking about peanut butter balls to people for the
past several weeks and they all thought i was crazy they never heard of such a thing so thank you to the one who brought the
peanut butter balls they were great and i am not as crazy as some would think. i know this says minister feed back blog but
i think it is a good place for kudos also. A good place to give kudos for nice things done by members of our church family.
It is good to have a place to be able to say good job we appreciate it to someone and nice to be able to bring a smile to
someone's face. Thank you to everyone for letting us be a part of your Christmas Eve and making it a memorable evening of
fellowship and worship. |

Merry Christmas everyone!
That was a great article--maybe we can all learn a little lesson in compassion and putting the needs of others before our
own. Sometimes a little reminder is nice! Kim-I also really enjoyed your column. Another great reminder! Kids have such
a wonderful spirit that we, as adults, seem to have lost or at least keep hidden most of the time. We can learn some great
lessons from our kids if we will just stop and pay attention to the uninhibited spirit that overflows from them. And think
of the happiness and joy we would feel!

Hah. Nothing like snow here. The Autumn-like weather here in Bucharest, Romania we are receiving is unseasonably warm.
There is much rain and such, but that is hardly a problem. Weather has not exactly presented itself as an obstacle for me
just yet.
A greater obstacle may be for me to somehow motivate my Chinese room mate into concentrating on school and graduating. Perhaps
just about anything will do, but he definitely needs to get it in his head that school is more important than he has made
it out to be.
I mostly say this because he wasn't at school today and.... our secretary asked me why. I don't know. |

Good morning to all,
I'm so thrilled that Connection Sunday was such a success. I look forward to each and every one. But, I also would also like
to see that in between our official Connection Sundays, we as a congregational family exhibit "Cultivate Sunday". Think how
much stronger our body can become if each Sunday, each of us commits to learn one new factoid about even one member of our
church family. The more we know about each others lives outside the walls of our building, the more invested we become in
each others wellbeing.
Food for thought,
Sue |

it seems they were putting public and religious schools together and comparing them to independent non religious schools.
The first two have large classes and the independent as small classes. More chance of one on one learning and more attention
per student. With both parents having to work, and keep up the home individual time is limited. Although there is never
a reason to lie and cheat, some children will lie and cheat because it gets them individual attention. It is sad to saybut
whether the attention be bad or good at least they have their attention. Maybe if everyone pitched in and helped out at home
then they could have time to spend together as a family. |

How sad that there is such a high rate of stealing/lying/cheating among teenagers! It was interesting that the article revealed
that teenagers attending religious schools had a higher incidence of cheating and lying. I wonder why... Maybe sometimes
parents put too much pressure on their kids, and the result might be lying/cheating to appear to meet their parents' expectations.
Not that any excuse makes it ok, but just a thought! |

First time on the new web site and first time "bloggin". I read the first blog "How do we talk with our friends?" and felt
compelled to respond.
To our good hearted Christian friend, I've been there, done that and it is hard, especially the first time. What gave me
the courage, then and now, is Pauls letter to Galatia (Galations 6). I too was in a situation where a friend was caught up
in sin. He flew the flag of Christianity but consistently found himself in a compromising situation regarding drunkeness.
He wasn't an alcoholic, it was just when he drank on occasions, he lost all control. Which as you might guess, leads others
to think "hypocrite!" It took a lot of guts for me to work up the courage to point out a fellow Christian's short fall.
I was super nervous for the very reason you mentioned, "I felt I was judging him". With a quivering voice I approached him
as Paul instructed "gently". Note Paul's other warning to watch ourselves so that we are not also tempted. Needless to say
we didn't have this discussion over a couple of beers.
Here is the good news. For years now, this guy has been one of my closest friends and his walk with Christ has grown dramatically
even spreading to others. Does he still drink? Yes, he enjoys an occasional beverage. However, since our talk, he has not
lost control and has saved himself, his fellow Christians and those close to him the embarassment of having had too much.
So, much like this bloggin thing, the first time is the hardest. You'll likely make a friend, someone who knows that you care
enough about them to take the time to confront them. I would encourage you to be honest and open about how you feel and bring
Paul along with you. I hope that you too will make a lifelong friend. Someone that you can confide in, someone that will
help others and perhaps even one day help you too. Good luck, I'll be praying for you. |

The website is great. I really like the way we can interact with everyone.
Margie-It is unfortunate that you would carry the burden of choosing between your faith and what you value versus your friendship.
Quite honestly I don't think no one should have to make that choice. A young man in our congregation told me this story.
I wish I could remember who told me the story to give him credit where credit is due. He told me of a young, good christian
girl he knew that would hang around crowds at school that were disobedient, adulterous, or drug seeking. One day her teacher
asked her why she would hang around those kids. She simply replied that she is going into the depths of hell and saving one
life at a time. She would hang around these kids because they were the ones who needed Jesus the most. Her strong faith
and values was the bread crumbs that led her and the kid back to God.
I'm not saying that we condone or participate in something that goes against what we believe or what we feel is ungodly.
We should hold strong to our faith and continue to be examples. Slowly and hopefully she will come around to see that your
friendship and your faith is the same. Like Drew mentioned, if you explain where your heart is, then she can understand where
you are coming from and not seem judgemental.

Drew-Loved the article and sent it to several people. I think my dilemma for the week will make good blog conversation....
I have a friend who is a Christian going through some really hard times. I have been trying to play the role of being the
supportive, comforting, and helpful friend through her struggles. I have tried to be kind and be a soundingboard to her without
passing judgement. But, in doing so I feel I have sacrificed my values and have not voiced what I believed to be true for
fear of hurting her feelings, making her feel like I was passing judgement, etc. I guess my question is as Christians, how
do we figure out the delicate balance of being there for others without condoning behaviors or decisions we fundamentally
disagree with? That line is very fuzzy for me, especially right now, and I feel I have failed to be authentic and vocalize
what I think is right or wrong in this situation for fear of damaging the relationship. I guess I don't know how to "speak
the truth in love" or I am just afraid to do so.
For the record-I feel like I am on Dr. Phil or the "New Life Live" show. I have discussed this in depth with 3 Christian friends
and the last one said-You better ask your minister on that one!!! The line was fuzzy for all of us-so I thought others might
have the same experiences. |
