I have received your message on the book. I also have the picture of all the ships in the harbor up in Halifax. By the way
,if you notice I am going to keep my wifes E-mail. When I came on the Z I was sent to KP. I stayed in the gally with WALDEN,WILLY,AND
GORMAN. Later we had CORKY,MAHONEY and a 2nd class Mahoney and I drove crazy. As I remember he took a berry pistol after somebody

John E. Marston, nice reply. Hows the old beach looking,wet. I remember spending every day on that beach.I had all the little
old ladies bringing colehogs,clams and every other kinds of goodies. We ate like kings.25 cents to get there and 25 cents
to get back. I can remember ringing the bell with the hammer.The first day on the beach I swam out to a boat to ask if they
would take me water skiing. They had everything in the boat. From then on they would search for me on the beach. For 6 months
in the yards at Charlstowne, I had a great time in BEANTOWN. |

house They treated me like family. To his family I say a prayer. One day Roger Cox and I went to RAVER BEACH where he asked

Remember you well. Spanky was Eddy Perria and I met him again in Maynard Ma. He ended up owning a constuction comapany and
owned houses in the virgin Island and Acton Ma. I met his 3 daughters and his wonderfull wife. he died in a accident in NH
. It was a terrible thing after not sseing him for so many years. Dave Nussy recommended I let eveyong know about this. He
lived quite the life and I will miss him big time ,

I was sorry to learn of the death of Frank Dewey. He was on board when a bunch of us came on board in early 1960.The Z was
in the yards in Norfolk undergoing a FRAM job. Frank was the first to make himself known to me and was a big help in helping
us get oriented to the ship and routine. We stayed in touch through the years. He shipped over after a hiatus of about a year
and spent 12 years in the Seabees. He contracted diabetes and the Navy screwed him and gave him the boot. He was a good guy
and a good shipmate. Very sad to have him gone. RIP, shipmate. Dave Manning, Chaplain |

Carlie it is nice to hear from you.I did not make it to the reunion due to a family commitment. Daughter had to go back to
college when her company went out of state.They are paying.I would like to know if still go back to Thelmouth and see any
of our friends. I used to go to summer camp in the mich.nat.guard for two weeks every summer.I would tell the guys "I GOING
TO THE E.M.CLUB to shoot some pool" if I were a betting man I would put my on me. My friends got to drink free. Some times
when they had a car we would go to all the local bars and I would do my thing. You remember. We had some fun, even if we didn't
have head lights. HA,HA |

We are members of Tge Wreath Endowment Program where we have a permanent plaque there and get a wreath placed during the ceremony.

Last week I had a terrific meeting with two shipmates in Florida. MARVIN SEIGEL (P) 44-46, and ROBERT DANKO 46-47 who served
together, but not seen each other in 66 years!! They were both around 19 years old last they saw each other!!
I met Marvin in January and wen to see him, he joined the Association and we shared information and some memorabilia. Bob
Danko was wintering in Florida not far from me and we went for lunch
one day and I happened to mention my meeting with Marvin - Bob instantly remembered him and several post-war experiences.
They talked for over an hour, and we ent over the roster list and Art Barnes' book (which Marvin just purchased a copy). Both
shipmates are 88 years old, but their memories are very strong and both in very good shape. It was my distinct pleasure to
be part of
this reunion!!. They truly are part if the Greatest Generation. |

I am proud to say that my grandfather, Roger Hayes, served on this great ship and survived the horrific attack on April 12,
1945. My grandpa Roger is alive and well, still living in the Seattle area. God bless all of those who have served. |

Hi, guys !the last reunion was a gas. Been dealing with med. issues...my wife had to have eye sergery. She. Had to lay face
down for two.
Weeks. Not fun. I just had carpel tunel yesterday. It's a good thing the weather is so crappy. -20 and snow. Was sorry to
hear of our loss of Bob. Bonds. I was glad to know that he and Scott , had chance to sit and talk. I,m sure they were able
to learn a lot from each other, I saw that the family MM2 Collins is looking for information. I served with Collins, and.
Remember speaking with him. We stood mid watch a lot of the time, so we would tell Sea stories to pass the time. He was a
good shipmate , and a good guy. I don't have anypictures but ill ask if anyone else does. Always nice to hear from. Family
members. We consider you crew members to, so show up at one of. Reunions and you will be able to talk to some of your dad's
old shipmates. Hoe to see you at one.

As a cook on the Zellars. I had the privlage of seving 3 days on the HMS BERWICK IN A COOK EXCHANGE PROGRAM during the MACHMACKER
CRUISE. I did not meet many brits, the ones i did pearsed my right ear with a rather large sail needle and an ice cube.If
I would have been on there any longer I would probubly ended up with my first and only tatoo. |

A brief story to share with all of you.My wife and I went to lunch a few days ago. While waiting at the counter, three young
men in their 20s came in to order. One of them had a Navy sweatshirt. I jokingly asked ihim if that meant the real Navy and
he said yes it did, they were all three at the Academy. I spoke a few words of encouragement to them, and told them of my
shipboard experience. I went on with lunch. Some time later, the three youhg men came to our table and said "Please excuse
us, we don't want to interrupt but we just wanted to say thank you for your service and all of those with whom you served.
It is a privilege to meet you sir" All three then came to attention and saluted as I stood and returned their salute. It is
my thinking that as long as we have young people like this to step up and stand in, our country is better for it. What a great
experience that was. Go Navy!! |

Word received that WILLIAM GOGAN PHM2 (44-46) passed away recently - details to follow. He and Carl Hirst were the two survivng
Pharmacist Mates after the ship doctor was killed in the attack.
He performed amazing work with the injured shipmates.

To all our Zellars family. Thanks for an unbelievably wonderful time in Boston. Words cannot describe the fantastic time we
had. If you've never had a chance to attend one of the reunion gathings , you make time. Sitting around tell ing sea stories
with all of these great mates is trip brown memory lane. We are so fortunate to have Less and all his good little helpers.
