Nice Job on the website Nancy. Brings back a lot of memories, I lived in the area of Pacers auto and used to ride my bike
to the shop when I was a teenager. I got to know your Dad and George. They were always nice to me as I walked around the shop
or watched them work on the Tasmanian Devil, muscle car's or speed wagon's. What an Education I had which
really means a lot to me know looking back what your Dad and George Accomplished. And still to this Day I'm a big fan of the
Pacers Auto. I met Scott on face book and since went to a Crackle Fest in 2014 in which I met with Scott and George, what
great experience. I'll always cherish those memories. Looking forward to going to Henderson, NC. in the near future. |

Wonderful. Thank you ever so much. You have made my day Sir. Brings back so many memories of my racing career from 1957 to
the present. I started with the street racing my 58 315hp, 4 speed, 4:11 rear at Cross Bay Blvd at the BowWow. Oak Street
in Hempstead, Islip Speedway, Natioal Speedway and pretty much every track from Florida to Canada and as far west as Chicago.
Great times with the likes of Jack Jacobs, Eddie Akam, Stevie Pauling. Retired from racing a bit from 1974-1990 to buy house,
raise family, etc. Racing bug bit me again in 1990 and fielded a new Mike Spitzer Super Comp dragster and won the 1991 Summernationals
at Englishtown. Well up the road and 3 new dragsters later, Undercover, Horton and the current Miller 4 link car keep me busy.
I am currently building a bracket racing 2007 Corvette to teach the grand kids a bit about how it feels to accomplish what
you set out to do. The Pacers gave me the inspiration to do just that when I was a snot nosed kid hanging on the fence, with
my mouth open in amazement, watching the PACERS so their thing. Peace and Dedication. Gene Wagner, NHRA Winston Champion.

Just looking on the internet for the whereabouts of old friends. |
How/When did you meet Charlie? |
We were born within a month of each other and were buddies from grade school. We both lived within a few blocks of each other
in Richmond Hill, NY. We both were interested in model Airplanes in the 40's, I still am. In between the model flying I drove
stocks at Freeport, NY, even put together a couple of Hotrods, but always came back to the model airplanes. Last talked with
him around 1997 or 1998 when he was having health problems. |

Hey Nancy,
Somehow stumbled across the site. Now & then I look up his stuff. Found this. Really nice. I have some really good memories
too even though it was later in his life, he was god to me an Dave. He taught me how to 'properly' shoot a bow. I have passed
the knowledge on to other kids and his wisdom radiates through these parts of Michigan still to this day.
I weld with his passion and hope I can only scratch the surface of his ability and vision.
As charlie said about Howard when he passed, "or world just got a little dumber" I think on endless occassions, the fun, wisdom,
and energy he gave us all. we all cherish his memory and miss him dearly, our world got alot dumber when he passed on.
A brilliant man.
Charlie life WAS like a car, we were all just in it, some were in the front seat, some in the back, but either way, he gave
us all a ride that no horsepower can match! Thanks, An thanks nancy for the website! pretty damn cool. jus like your dad.

What a pleasure to find this site. George & Charlie played an important part of my life way back when I grew up in NY, first
when they had the hot rod club behind my mom & dad's bar & grill in Hewlett. I was only 10-11 years old, but it was definitely
the cool place to hang out. They loved mom & dad and were like uncles to me. When they opened the shop in Oceanside, I would
bring my Mustangs in, and finally Charlie convinced me to put a Shelby supercharger on it...WHEW! Many times I went with
them to the speedway out by the Hamptons. I have a trove of photos taken out there and will post them on the site as soon
as I can.
I'm so sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. He was always someone I dearly looked up to. George, if you read this, I hope
you're doing just fine and want to tell you how much I appreciated you guys being in my life. |

Very cool site. Really enjoyed the the old pics of Charlie and Mike Sforza's cars. I remember the Tasmanian Devil and believe
I built a model of it as a kid. |
How did you hear about this site? |
Always checking drag racing news and happened upon it. |
How/When did you meet Charlie? |
Didn't know Charlie. My dad worked for Mike Sforza on and off when he was at S&P. He was a mechanic with the airlines, but
had built a number of cars (street cars like a 50 Merc with a 283 small block
sleeper) back then. I remember, as a kid, walking
into the shop (before Mike expanded shop into the parking lot) and seeing him and another one or two guys laying out the dragster
frame rails on the floor. Never got to see the car completed as I was pretty young at the time, but always remember my trips
to his shop. I have a few pics (Kodak slides) of the car on the trailer with his dark blue pickup truck in front of the shop.
He was a true craftsman. My dad and I built a number of cars growing up. The one which I kept and I continue to work on is
a 57 Belair 2-door hardtop. Recently ran it out at Island Dragway where your pics are from
.talk about nostalgia! |

We were from Valley Stream and my Dad became friends with Charlie and George when Pacers was in Hewlett NY. I just remember
saying to my Dad lets go see Charlie Dodge, lets go see Charlie Dodge! My Dad would stop in at Pacers on Lawson Blvd. on Saturdays
and it would make my week. I always remembered the car smell, grease, oil and gasoline. Then your DAd would appear out of
the back of the shop bigger than life, I was in awe as a little kid. Great Memories! |
