I chose life with ALS it was an easy decision, but I knees the hardship, financial, emotional, responsibility, sacrifice,
dependance on others for 24/7 care. It's not for everyone with ALS. I'm quadraplegic, have a feeding tube, tracheostomy, and
on the ventilator much of the time. I am fortunately able to have 16 hours nursing care. I fought a hard battle with my health
insurance company and won. Since then, that door was shut permanantly. ALS is perhaps the most expensive disease. I pay out
of all my long term disability insurance and social security $96 a night for a private caregiver, every night.
I have been able to watch my son who was 12 and my daughter who was 16 turn into adults, graduate from high school and college,
and my daughter have a son. I'm still a Mom, Grandma, wife, sister, Aunt. I write (2 published books), travel (twice to Hawaii
last year), organize all my care, train new caregivers and nurses, (I was a RN), maintain friendships, and inspire many to
live rather than die of ALS.
Keep fighting, don't give up. Hope for a cure, but realistically don't expect one.
Love fiercely, live fully every moment. And appreciate all the love you have around and within you.

Aimee....thank you for sharing your story. My husband was diagnosed with ALS 2 yrs. ago (we actually say our family was diagnosed).
We have three children also (Kiel-16, Blayke-11, Maycee-10). I feel just as you do that they are being robbed just as you
are being robbed. Your story has touched my heart so deeply this morning. I will pray for you and your family as I pray
for mine every day. This fight is not over. We are working hard with Congress and demanding they help us in this battle.
"Never give up, Never give in" is our battle cry and we won't just take this disease laying down. May God bless you and

I know this will sound far fetched and I hope someone gets this message! Most people in the US have not heard the real and
true story about LYME disease but it CAN cause a myriad of other conditions believed to be the real thing ie. Lupus or MS
but they are really caused by Lyme! My daughter has Lyme-Induced- Lupus and I have Lyme-Induced-Rheumatoid Arthritis. There
is even a huge website dedicated to Lyme-Induced- Autism (LIA.org). We live in Fairfax, VA (don't know where you are) and
have a great doctor that treats us holistically and with traditional medicine. She is an MD and Rheumatologist and treats
both adults and children with all aspects of Lyme and she treats them successfully. If you would like more information about

Aimee - Wonderful website. You are an inspiration!! I live and work in Washington, DC and I often credit your husband Jim
for that. The first time I visited DC was while at IWU and I roomed with Jim and Doug Becker and one other person, maybe
Jim Pfeiffer. I remember that I had a great time with Jim and that we never got a hot shower because Doug used all of the
hot water every day...
I have been donating to ALS research for years through the Combined Federal Campaign (a federal govt. version of the United

on her facebook page. I remember your beautiful red hair. I am sure you don't remember this but once I went to your house
for a sleepover for Renee's birthday. My picture happened to be in the paper the next day for a school project. Your mom
showed me the paper and the caption had my name in it. You refused to believe it was me. No matter how hard we tried to convince

Hi Aimee and Jim,
My name is Michael deKruif (sounds like dee krife) and I was dg with Bulbar Onset ALS in December 2002. This coming December
will be 7 years. I am a 57 yr old father of two and our daughter Jessica and son-in-law, Andrew, just blessed my wife of 30+
years, Donna, and myself with a grandson Michael Joseph on Aug 17th!
My Sister Sue and my Brother-in-law live in Mundelien and they sent me the article from the Daily Herald. They have supported
me and my family from day one and stories such as yours, help other ALS patients keep up hope. I have been deeply involved
with ALS of Michigan and MDA since day one.
Tomorrow we will be doing the ALS of Michigan's Walk 'n Roll 2009.
I am still quite ambulatory and still walk and drive. My arms and upper body have weakend and my speech is labored, but, by
the Grace of God I am hanging in.
Keep up the great work Aimee and NEVER GIVE UP!

As a mother myself, my heart goes out to Aimee and her family. I had 2 strokes in 08 and suffered very minor brain damage.
I'm fine now, thank God, but I can relate to trying to relearn things I once knew so easily. Aimee is my age and we have the
same name (different spelling). Although I don't know Aimee personally, I feel a connection. Your in my prayers, just do the

My cup runneth over as I read the pages of your web site. My Mom was diagnosed with ALS this spring and we still struggle
daily to accept what is to come. Her disease began three years ago with the deterioration of her speech/swallowing. As her
only daughter I struggle with my own emotions daily on how I can help my Mom. We have yet to set up our first in home counseling
meeting or attend a support group but think we might be ready.

You are such an inspiration to me..I lost my dad from ALS a few years ago when he was 52yrs. old. Since then, I have had
2 boys, who he will never get to meet. I am terrified that someday I or my children will get ALS. It truly is, I believe,
one of the worst, if not the worse diseases around and I can't believe how many people don't even know what it is. I am tired
