Comments: Julian installed my hot water system and did a solar panel re-wire project for me. He and his crews were prompt and timely. Since the install, my electric bill has been low ($30 for July 2012, my co-workers all have $275+ bills)) and it has been hot here in Savannah with the AC running allot. I look forward to cooler months and a $0 electric bill. Thanks for the professional work

Comments: Subject: RE: SolarSmith: We received your email: I am interested in getting off of the electrical grid but I am not sure how to afford it at this time. Can you give me an idea of what all will be needed and what it will cost? A:Hi Robert, You will need to learn to disconnect from the power grid! This can be done with just a little effort on your part. First, remember if it is a computer or its peripherals, if it has a remote, it is using energy while plugged in. You can start here to disconnect from the grid by getting rid of your phantom energy losses. The task of getting off the grid is no simple task. It is also expensive to do all at once. I would suggest a yearly goal and spread the installation over many years. At this time a 4KW photovoltaic system will meet the maximum tax credit. A 3KW solar hot water system will max out at 2500 for the state. Respectively the Federal tax credit is 9000 and 2100. This will be about where you get off the grid if you start disconnecting today. The tax credits are yearly so if you find you need just a little more energy you can add on as you like yearly. Solar panels are not like computers that need to be replaced. No matter how long you have solar panels they still work.
