Comments: Fabulous pictures within a truly great web site. Would love to gain your permission to use a few of your pictures with full credit in forthcoming memoir about my American mother's service to the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in the Bahamas from 1940-1945. Have assembled and compiled her wonderful typescript and a few photos of the couple and large trove of memorabilia she collected whilst she served them as private secretary and resided in G.H. Some of her mementos duplicate yours (The Royals); some of yours are directly discussed in her text and thus very relevant to the book.

I am trying to piece together the events around the time of my mother's (Rhoda Kemp) To my fater William Frederick Morris. He was in RAF Ferry command during WW2. Unfortunately he was Killed in s crash during take off at Oakes field, I was born in Nassau but taken to Canada by my mother whilst still a baby. I have never had the opportunity yet to return to my birthplace, so all this information is facinating. If any one has photo's of the WW2 period that they would share I would be very greatful.

Comments: August 1st, 2010 Dear Mr. Davies, It is so timely that should I received the 'link' to your web-site 'Old Bahamas in Photos'. Today being Emancipation Day made viewing your photo collection more enjoyable. I grew up in Nassau City, (Shirley St.)and I am quite familiar with the majority of the scenes displayed, having spent many days through out Downtown Nassau. I moved to Grand Bahama in the '70's and have an appreciation for the photos of Freeport and West End too, having spent many enjoyable days there..especially in West-End. Thank you for creating such a historical web-site on The Bahamas, as I am sure it will prove to be a great asset to help many Bahamians learn about their past. As the saying goes: 'If you do not know where you came from, you will not know where you are headed'! You site will allow hundreds of Bahamians to know where they came from. Kind regards, Thank you once again! Monte Pratt

Comments: Hello Bob, I am a fan of history, born in New Providence in 1950. My mother was a straw vendor, so, some of the scenes you share, awaken my memories from 'about '58-60 onward, when I walked from school to home or the straw markets & Bay Street etc.. I enjoy looking at the picture scenes that show a time before. I think of which buildings or locations have been replaced with what. For me, this reflection of then and now, creates a time-line of our history which I enjoy very much. PS I note with reference to your Beach collection, regarding Paradise Beach 1966. The beach shot captioned West End??? is the West side of a cove (along which a Holiday Inn was located between 1972 and 2000) adjacent to Paradise Beach or the area in the background of your photo captioned Paradise Beach July 1966. Best regards. Thank you very much for the time you put into creating this site. CP

Comments: I am very impressed with the photo's of Old Bahamas, most of all The Royal Victoria Hotel. As a child I walked on the grounds of that hotel, my Mom was a maid at the hotel, she's 86 years old, and is living with me in San Bernardino, CA but for the past two months have been in the hospital. I also sent the link to my son who was born in the Bahamas, he's stationed at Fort Lee, VA in the US Army.

Comments: Mom Emily Joyce Russell(Bahamian) married Dad Victor Toyne Potter(Canadian) during WWII. I was born in Canada and now reside in Australia. I spent summer in Nassau with my grandmother Jennie Russell, my Aunt Dot Albury and Aunt Pat Sweeting in 1954 when I was 8 years old. What a wonderful time I had. Many visits to Nassau before and after that time. Fond memories. Your website is a great opportunity to have a look at places and things I remember from my childhood.

Comments: You have done an outstanding job! It brought back memories when I would come here as a child to visit my birthplace. It saddens to know we have to re-live history by pictures when so many of these buildings could have been refurbished but were destroyed! What an asset these buildings would have been to the tourist industry! Thank you for taking the time to do this!
