:-) Buen viaje! |

Dear Mary, Thanks for your message. In terms of traveling in November to Puerto Plata, it is more of a myth. There are brief
afternoon rain showers, depending on the year, but hurricane season in the Caribbean's really June - October, with September
& October being the worst probability-wise. Futhermore, the reason it's a true myth for Puerto Plata because the mountain
range cutting across the middle of the island protects the North Coast! It's Punta Cana that's in the line of fire for hurricanes,
not Puerto Plata - regardless of the month you travel. Enjoy your trip, and drop us a line about your experience! |

John, Thanks for your message, and please let us know how your vacation went. Try www.orbitz.com or www.cheaptickets.com....Fort
Lauderdale may offer better pricing, though service now in the spring may be limited or non-existent. American is usually
the dominant carrier from Miami; however, we have seen Delta, Spirit, and Jetblue increase service. Consider a scenic drive
from Santiago if you feel adventurous. Sometimes you can find better fares by flying into that smaller airport, and then booking
a transfer or taxi to Puerto Plata, though it's about 45 minutes away (try Cocotours or Turinter for pre-booked transfers).
As long as they take you down the mountains on the tourism road, you will not believe the lush valleys & mountains you will
see on your way down to Puerto Plata from Santiago. Enjoy! |

Dear Yoshino, The best place to look for online travel agents in your scenario would probably be www.kayak.com. This site
will look at many online sites for the best options; however, in our experience, you may have to fly through Miami, FL from
St Martin to your next destination. Consider looking at www.aa.com too, though no online agency or airline can help you with
a Cuba booking, since it's illegal in most cases for American citizens to travel to this island. If you are not a U.S. resident,
to travel to Cuba, you may still need to go via Jamaica or Cancun - so in case you are going to Cancun, Mexico anyway, you
may want to save Cuba for the last part of your itinerary (Cubana has daily flights - or used to). If the Dominican Republic
might be in your plan, again, you most likely will need to connect through a city like Miami to reach your destination. Have
a great time, and if you do go to the Dominican Republic, please feel free to write us back about your vacation experience.
Safe travels. |

I am planning to have a two week holiday in St. Martin in this May or June. And after St. Martin I would possibly like to
make a short stop in CUBA or DOMINICAN REPUBLIC on the way to Mexico. Now, I am wondering if you could kindly tell me whether
there are direct flights from St. Martin to the above mentioned countries. Also it would be greatly appreciated if you show
me URLs of recommendable travel agencies, so that I might contact them online for quotes on prices and availability. I will
be looking forward to your reply. Thank you |

Dear Melissa, We hope you have a great trip! It actually depends on what you and your friends have in mind while on vacation.
The Viva Wyndham in Cabarete, just outside of Puerto Plata (20-30 minute drive) is a great all-inclusive with an American
brand name. This area is also a great place to walk around with the many little shops, restaurants, and bars. A villa gives
you more independence from set all-inclusive restaurant schedules and such, so the Cofresi area just outside of Puerto Plata
could also be an option. You can actually rent a villa that includes housekeeping and cooking staff, so your friends can customize
what they would like to eat and so on; however, you will need to pay for and supply a list for groceries typically. If you
could give us a sense of the experiences you are looking for, we can point you in the right direction. Thanks for your message! |

Dear Kendra, Congratulations! It is really amazing to celebrate any anniversary in this tropical paradise. The island and
its atmosphere make it an ideal candidate for romance. Don't forget to consider staying somewhere very romantic like "Casa
Colonial" or no matter where you are staying consider an evening in Sosua at some ocean-front restaurant. (Ask your concierge
about one of our favorites called Pier Giorgio's). Let us know how your vacation went! |

Dear Mel, If budget's not an issue, consider Casa Colonial in the Puerto Plata area. If you really want seclusion, about a
3 hour drive from the airport will bring you to Samana. It has breath-taking natural beauty, and it's still a bit rustic -
maybe just what you are looking for...There are some value-type hotels like Gran Bahia in that area of the country too. Another
option would be checking out a small hotel in Punta Cana, a tourist destination on the Eastern tip of the island. Check smaller
resorts like Sivory, Agua, and the Tortuga Bay. Agua is one of our favorites as a getaway, and it's small enough to afford
a lot of secluded privacy. Enjoy, and let us know how your vacation goes. |

Dear Tracy, Staying in the Puerto Plata and North Coast areas afford many opportunities to get out there with the people &
culture. Just a short drive from both downtown and the aiport, consider the following: a. Rent a car and visit Sosua & Cabarete
during the day time. These areas are very walkable, and you will be able to chat with local Dominicans at the many cafes &
restaurants - as well as tourists alike. We suggest Sosua for early eveings as well as an option. b. Feeling adventurous?
Try driving a few hours going East to Samana...this area is very rustic, and has a lot of natural beauty. It's very rustic,
and a bit more Spanish & your smile will come in handy. c. Closer to Puerto Plata, you can drive or take a tour up the tourist
highway (we stress taking the tourist highway - not the highway highway!) up to Santiago. Be sure to absorb the cigar making
experience of the area, and stop by to buy some fruit or knick-knacks in the many small village areas...People are friendly,
and a smile paves the way in case your Spanish is not too strong! d. Tour the amber museum, Fort San Felipe, & the malecon
downtown Puerto Plata area by day, and check out the town square & Victorian style houses. Ask your hotel concierge the best
restaurant options for the time of day or night you wish to go...as times vary. Have a great time, and let us know if you
would like additional ideas. |
