Comments: Friends, I need help, or more accurately, collaboration. I am working on documenting the connections between Muscogee music and Black Gospel music. I hope to find folks who speak and sing in both Muscogee and English, and share my interest in this subject. My thesis is that slave music, and Gospel, are very strongly rooted in Muscogee music. When I hear Black gospel I hear stomp-dance, with far less England or Africa in the mix. Please write if you care to learn more. Mvto! Jimi Del Duca

Comments: Hensci All, Can anyone arrange a meeting with Sen. Obama, whereby, the plight of the Freedman's injustices can be addressed. It appears that there is a lack of knowledge concerning the obvious violations of the 1866 treaty. Sen. Obama is not the decendant of slaves owned by Indians and therefore he does not have the same passion for correctiong the ills perpretrated against us as Freedmans. It would be positive if we could communicate directly to him out concerns without fanfare.

Comments: Interesting article at Indianz.Com today entitled: Senator Obama claims nomination. Certainly not news to America by now, it does give stats on how the heavily Native voting areas of the midwest supported the senator. In proclaiming his message that he is all about change, we can hope (and shall see) if the saga of the Freedmen will become part of those changes. I wish him well and recognize this historic moment in American history.

Comments: What? Name a conference where lunch is provided. I have been to hundreds and NEVER was my food provided unless I paid for a lunch ticket to attend. But beyond that, we have to pay for Ms Watson and her staff to fly out and their stay in a hotel, etc..etc....add that up! Add up the cost of printed material, add up the cost of postage, add up the cost for the venue, keep adding and you will find that the fee to attend the conference hardly comes up to amount that it cost to put this thing on. Thank God for a few donors who are contributing large donations to help us. But its never been about the money, its been about getting information out to the public. I can list a number of things that the association has done and currently doing including two very expensive lawsuits. Not to mention the fact that we carried our own expense to DC several times...etc etc.....what the hell are you doing? It bites my azs when people complain about others when in reality they should be setting in a mirror asking what am I doing for the cause. One more thing....there are plenty of places for lunch around the conference. There will however be a fundraiser dinner for the Congresswoman that night. Congress started this mess and now is not the time to be "politically correct" and let the those in power continue to abuse the civil rights of their citizens. Let's be real. Comments: Hi Norma, The placing of the Creek Freedmen on separate rolls was not just about the person having African ancestry. Nearly a quarter of the blood rolls are people of African descent. The dirt is found in an act of Congress. Congress required that if any one is found on the JW Dunn roll, that person and all his/her descendants are to be placed on the Creek Freedmen rolls. One exception to this rule was when a Creek freedmen man was married to a Creek by blood woman, then the children would follow her on the blood rolls. All part of Jim Crow maddness...

Comments: Mary, I was refering to YOUR birth certificate first, connecting YOU to a family member (ancestor) on the Creek rolls, so you would be considered a direct descendant. I have my birth certifcate and my mother's birth certificate that states my grandmother's parents and her date of birth. My grandmother's father is on the Creek freedmen roll. I am a direct descendant of AN ancestor that has a roll number in the Creek nation. You misunderstood me. I understand about birth certificates. I had to get a delayed birth certificate for my father. His father (my grandfather) is on the Chickasaw freedmen roll, so I had to make the connections, first starting with my birth certificate. I've figured out my bloodline if nothing else.

Comments: thanks norma. i have what i could get. the rest i know. i am sure everyone knows there were no cerifs. of birth and death before 1900.since family is so determined to deny kinship, i would never attempt or dream of trying to claim relations that does not exsist.i have some proof(records) that they are indeed family

Comments: Mary, give me ALL the census card numbers of your ancestors and I will try to look them up for you. Do you have birth certificates going back to your ancestors mentioned in your previous posts because you will need those for proof of your connection to your ancestors. Also to look up a census record (not a census card) lets say 1900, I need a correct name and family members. Also, it is pointless looking for people you have no connection to for citizenship. You have to be a direct descendant of that person, meaning that person has to be your parent, grand or greatparent.

Comments: Mary, did you actually send off for the enrollment and allotment documents for all your ancestors that have a census card number? The amount will be $30.00. And, it is true that most of the enrollment information for Creeks have been lost or destroyed (only allotments). If there are no testimonies from your ancestors, you are out of luck. The same goes for all creeks. My ancestor left his testimony (written document) stating who he was and his daughter so at least I know my bloodline, but as far as citizenship, that's another issue. Also, I checked the Loyal Creek list, but could not find your ancestors mentioned, only Judy Grayson, #1310. I did see a Phoebe Grayson, #40 that Cathy asked about.

Comments: Hensci(hello) ALL... Mark your calender for the Descendants of Freedmen of the Five Civilized Tribes Association GENEALOGY WORKSHOP, set for Saturday, April 26th at Langston University-Oklahoma City Campus, from 11:00am to 3:00pm. The topic of this workshop is: A JOURNEY THROUGH THE DAWES COMMISSION. It will focus on the practices, procedures, and tactics the Dawes Commission used to enroll our ancestors. There will be plenty of displays & demonstrations on how the Dawes Commission separated our ancestors by placing one sibling on the "by blood roll" and the other sibling on the freedmen roll, and in most cases with the same mother and father. This workshop will be very informative. Folks, I hope to see you there. For more information, or on registration fee contact Ron Graham at: rgramsr@yahoo.com or 918-756-5886; or Ms. Grayson at dof5ctac@yahoo.com...

Comments: Ben, the 58 billion relates to trust mismanagement. Did your family have land held in trust? Here in Montana the mismanagement was gargantuan having to do with minerals, timber, grazing, and farm leases.
