Mary, give me ALL the census card numbers of your ancestors and I will try to look them up for you. Do you have birth certificates
going back to your ancestors mentioned in your previous posts because you will need those for proof of your connection to
your ancestors. Also to look up a census record (not a census card) lets say 1900, I need a correct name and family members.
Also, it is pointless looking for people you have no connection to for citizenship. You have to be a direct descendant of
that person, meaning that person has to be your parent, grand or greatparent. |

Mary, did you actually send off for the enrollment and allotment documents for all your ancestors that have a census card
number? The amount will be $30.00. And, it is true that most of the enrollment information for Creeks have been lost or destroyed
(only allotments). If there are no testimonies from your ancestors, you are out of luck. The same goes for all creeks.
My ancestor left his testimony (written document) stating who he was and his daughter so at least I know my bloodline, but
as far as citizenship, that's another issue.
Also, I checked the Loyal Creek list, but could not find your ancestors mentioned, only Judy Grayson, #1310. I did see a
Phoebe Grayson, #40 that Cathy asked about. |

Hensci(hello) ALL...
Mark your calender for the Descendants of Freedmen of the Five Civilized Tribes Association GENEALOGY WORKSHOP, set for Saturday,
April 26th at Langston University-Oklahoma City Campus, from 11:00am to 3:00pm. The topic of this workshop is: A JOURNEY
THROUGH THE DAWES COMMISSION. It will focus on the practices, procedures, and
tactics the Dawes Commission used to enroll our ancestors. There will be plenty of displays & demonstrations on how the Dawes
Commission separated our ancestors by placing one sibling on the "by blood roll" and the other sibling on the freedmen roll,
and in most cases with the same mother and father. This workshop will be very informative. Folks, I hope to see you there.
For more information, or on registration fee contact Ron Graham at: rgramsr@yahoo.com or 918-756-5886; or Ms. Grayson at dof5ctac@yahoo.com... |

both of them are on the final rolls i their wives also have numbers some children are on the minor creekfreedmen. And doing
my research i think ive decoded the names of the slave oh!forgot they couldnt have names sally mclish listed as full creek
at the time had 13 slaves most of whom i believe are all my ancestors theres confusion on these two thing for me one the slave
indexes show sally mclish listed only two person as black the rest was listed as M to my understanding M meant half or full
blood Indian and i think my gfather at age 2yrs was listed as half Indian. the other another census has him listed as black.
And i havent mentioned his wife thats listed as creek. and more information that i have of the twelfthcensuswith their name
on it all living in indian territory and even moredocumentationlegal. thanks for hearing |

I will get straight the point. Answer?1. The descendants of Muscogee (Creek) Freedmen that I have talked to over the many
years had ALL stated that in the 1979 election, they were not given an opportunity to vote. Some even had their voters cards
taken away from them. Also in discussing this with a lot of creek citizens "by blood & freedmen" some stated that they did
not fully understand what they were voting on. Nevertheless the freedmen did not get an oppotunity to vote...But...answer?2A.
Y E S...answer?2B. In 1979 the Muscogee (Creek) Nation reorganized its constitution and government under the Oklahoma Indian
Welfare Act of 1936,??which was under the authority of Congress??...but I believe Congress never intended for this to happen,
that the Descendants of Freedmen would be kicked/voted out of our respected Tribes/Nations...We are basically in the same
boat as our Cherokee Freedmen citizens...but believe me Mss Norma, myself and many others are diligently working hard on getting
all these problems answered or solved...Let's continue to work together and in prayer...MVTO...IICor5:7.always... |

Ron G. since you are Vice President, could you check into the following and give the Creek freedmen descendants an answer?
1. Did the Creek freedmen actually vote at the time they were kicked out of the Creek nation? It is hard to imagine voting
oneself out of citizenship.
2. Did the Creek nation violate the rights of the freedmen by violating the 1866 Treaty when it reorganized? Was this reorganization
under the authority of Congress?
The Creek freedmen descendants are in the same boat as the Cherokee freedmen descendants except no one is checking to see
what actually happened back in 1979, I believe the year was.
We await your answer. Thanks!!! |

Hensci everyone. On Tuesday, March 18th,2008, I attended the town hall meeting here in Okmulgee,OK given by Senator Tom Coburn.
I asked him a few questions about the Freedmen issue. He explained to everyone about the Treaty of 1866 that the five tribes
made with the United States, and that the treaties should be honored PERIOD.
He commented on how he had spoken to Chief Chad Smith,(Cherokee Nation),and stated that the Chief was wrong about the Freedmen
issue. He also stated that Congress should get involved & that the House Bills in Washington are premature, and that we should
let the courts handle it first. Overall Senator Coburn was very informative on all the issues people had asked and I was very
impressed with his understanding & knowledge about the Descendants of Freedmen issues. MVTO

I am looking for relative of Sutam McGilbray, his son Quash McGilbray and Ned Thompson. Ned is the son of Quash and grandson

Ned was the Supt. of livestock for the Creek Nation under Chief Checota and was a Creek Councilman from 1890 to 1895. He was
also the builder of the Creek Council House. His picture once hung in the main office of the Creek Nation, however, it was

on now to the larger issue, the hearings before Congress. I have Creek neighbors who used the IHS for their health care and
I really don't want to see them hurt, however they are supporters of the freedmen and know that we have to do what we have
to do. Asking Congress to limit funding to the MCN until they do what is right. |

Melvin, I'd say what they did was IGNORE the new law and reinforce the older racist laws. The American Indian Civil Rights
Act passed by Congress may just as well never have been written. It is exactly like what would have happened if the Civil
Rights Act of 1964 had not become law and been ENFORCED. Jim Crow laws and policy would still be in full force all over the
south. |

Rumor has it that there has been an amendment added to the Indian Health Services Bill that is similiar to the Indian Housing
Bill that the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma can not particpate because of what they have done to their Freedmen. I hope this
is true. |

created new law instead of interpreting law? |

Greetings to all! I am writing to respond to Melvin's question regarding the role of Congress, and I hope I do the issue
justice. So Melvin, in general, Congress must be involved because the Supreme Court gutted the Indian Civil Rights Act of
1968 in deciding through Santa Clara Pueblo vs. Martinez in 1978 that recognized tribal governments can perpetrate any outrage
they want, however crooked and unconstitutional, upon their citizens. This is the case all over Indian country and it is
THE major obstacle to healthy tribal functioning today. Basically the court said that although tribes all get federal money
and all have non-traditional puppet governments created by Washington that depend on the BIA to approve their every move,
the feds won't do a thing to insure that the basic civil rights which protect other US citizens also apply to Indians. The
feds only act when vital political or commercial issues which serve their own interests are at stake. Crooked or greedy tribal
goverments usually don't rate action until white people are being negatively effected.
It is a horrible and destructive situation which will not change until congress acts to clear up the issue and protect all
Americans equally. The whole "tribal soverignty" excuse is simply a tactic to keep tribal people of all colors down and on
a leash and "the Man" in control.
The Freedmen have opened up a HUGE can of worms here with far reaching consequences for every tribal person in the USA. I
pray that you all will succeed where so many others have failed. The forces arrayed against you are powerful beyond belief,
but with the help of the Creator all things are possible. Jim

for justice. How many Creek or Cherokee freedmen descendants are there that you are aware of that have posted and have ancestors
on the Dawes roll? I just would like to see more faces (names) of freedmen descendants presented to the public whomever they
might be. |

Hensci Melvin, I think the writer may have confused the year...there are historical documents where the Creek Principal Chief
complained to the Senate that they had no rights to grant US citizenship to members of the Creek nation both freedmen and
Indian, also there are testimonies of Creek freedmen stating that they rather be left alone as citizens of the Creek Nation,
this would have been around 1880. And everyone knows what 40 years later...Tulsa's genocide on Freedmen. |

I want to address questions about what are descendnats organization plans to assist Creek freedmen .
First of all, we cannot say all on an open board but hear the following
1. There are no plans to return to Creek tribal court WE believe the verdict unjust; the fact the tribe even required us to
provide a court reporter for the trial (we paid more than 10,000 for court reporting) was unjust.
Federal Court - There are no immediate plans for federal litigation.,
The treaties which protect the Cherokee freedmen and the Creek freedmen are similar although not identical. I will not go
into it on this board why the CHerokee freedmen case was legally a better case to try first .
When the Cherokee freedmen case is won, it will set precedence for Creek freedmen case
.
I also want to
adddress something else. Federal court cases require large sums of money. The Velie law firm took on the Seminole freedmen
case completely pro bono - Are you aware the case ran up more than 1/2 MILLION dollars in expenses and fees ?
THere are few grants for tribal rights litigation. Are you aware that Indian legal aide groups refuse to asist in disenrollment
issues?,
If we were to file a Creek freedmen federal lawsuit - say based on creek freedmen not voting in 1979, how many posters would
put up 20,000 of their own money to assist in getting it started?

I have just spoken to Mr. Johnson. He said that I could respond to your question. You're absolutely correct. Cato Davis roll#
3941,& Cooper Davis roll# 3931 creek freedmens were brothers. Joe Davis being their father.
Joe was a U.S. citizen,* although he was ""3/4 Muscogee(Creek)indian."" Mr.
Johnson's mother's name was Maggie Davis(Johnson). Maggie's parents were Cooper Davis & Ida May Graham(Grim) Davis. Mr. Johnson's
grandmother Ida Graham, & my,(Ron Graham), grandfather
Floyd Graham(Grim) were brother & sister, and were NOT Muscogee(Creek)
citizens...MVTO...Ron
*note:at that time you had to be either a U.S. citizen or a citizen of
a tribe/nation. You could not be both

Thank you Mr Graham. I don't understand a tribe that claim to be Christian would lie. The bible teaches that a liar will not
inherit the Kingdom of God. The Creek Nation will never know peace until they repent before God and apologize to the freedmen.
Im reminded of my gran-papa who spoke so little English because his Creek was to strong. Every other word was Creek. When
he prayed to the Lord he prayed in Creek. Im a old man now. I can't leave this planet without knowing my children, grandchildren
and all my 29 great grandchildren are Creek citizens. Bruner |

Alabama Muscogee,
Everyone has a right to share their opinion but your apparent lack of knowledge is overwhelming. Your comments lack any
logic or reliable proof to back up your statements. Every time one speaks their thoughts their mind is on parade. You have
shown us your hateful irrational emotions. Hate is simply the fear of the unknown. You are scared of the truth and you hide
behind your fears.
Please do not be afraid. We are not here to hurt you. We are here because we have the right to be here. The Creator gave
us the Breath of Life and the right to live as our ancestors taught us.
I won't even bother to quote the historical documents that give credence to the fact that African Americans were indeed full
citizens of the Mvskoke Nation with all rights and privileges. I won't point out the records that prove that African Mvskoke
helped build the wealth of the Mvskoke Nation. Yes, African slaves made the Mvskoke Nation what it is today.
It is a fact that you did not even take the time to read the wealth of information contain in this site or the hundreds of
other sites. So many documents that counter your claims. A closed heart is a prison and only you have the key to unlock
knowledge to free yourself. The real question is do you want the truth or would you rather believe in a lie.
It is better to appear a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. |

Hensci Deborah and Elder Billy,
It is good to hear from enrolled Mvskoke citizens regarding the shame that has darkened our great Nation. I said 'our" because
I am Mvskoke even though my African blood has threatened some in power and have made it impossible for me to apply for citizenship.
My ancestors were Mvskoke citizens. They were African and Native and one.
I am grateful to you both that you will spread the news among the enrolled citizens. It is past time we hear from our brothers
and sisters.
In times past the Mvskoke Confederacy was the dominant power in the southeast. Our strength came from the wisdom of our elders
who increased our numbers by adoption. Our diversity gave us the edge politically, culturally and economically. What one
lacked the other made up and vise versa. Today the Mvskoke Nation is last of the Five Nations in economic strength. Why?
According to our traditions our elders told stories to pass on ancestral knowledge of life from one generation to the next.
Our morals and values were revealed by the wonderful tales about animals, plants and people. The Mvskoke Nene is about maintaining
balance and harmony in this world. This was our way!
In 1979 brother threw out their brother. A disgrace and shame. Our Nation cannot regain her rightful place in history until
the restoration of citizenship is rightfully restored to all Dawes enrollees and their descendants. I am hopeful that the
Mvskoke Nation will be the first of the Five to honor it's elders, follow it's traditions and keep their word by restoring
citizenship that should have never been taken away.
Our leaders today need to revisit Mvskoke traditions and honor the wisdom of our elders. In the sacred center of every tvlwv
a fire burned that represented the people. We were people of one fire. It's time for the Mvskoke Nation to shine bright
and powerful as before.
