Comments: Hello readers, In May of 1977, I journed to the Creek nation in an effort to obtain documents re: my family's citizenship. I was told by a Creek Nation staff person that 86 Creek Elders met two weeks prior to arrival and they voted to recind the citizenship of all persons listed on the 1906 Freedmen roll. Also, I later found out that the Freedmen citizen were not allowed to vote on their own faith. Shame on you Creek Nation for your ungodly acts against a people and their rights to be a citizen of the Creek Nation. These people were once slaves. God will never forget what you perpretrated against his people. Remember the action that you took against the Freedmen is answerable to God only and all guilty persons will pay.

His father was William Nicholas Perryman Freedmen and his father was Hector Perryman who died before allotment. Moses Perryman was the slave owner and possibly the father of Hector's father; York. Moses was quite known for having many slaves and have many children with the female slaves. Mvto

Comments: That was my father Billy H., he is talking about my kids. My first husband is black and we just found out his people were Creek freedmen. All this time we knew he was from the Beggs area but didn't think he had Creek connections. All along he was Creek, just Creek freedmen but still Creek. This made me mad as hell to know my kid's grandparents are treated this way. I am a proud Creek but am ashame of my tribe right now. I have started asking my kin if they were part of that election in the 1970s and no one remembers if the freedmen were even there. I gonna look at this site everyday to help. I am scared for my kids because they are black Creeks. I consider myself traditional and my kids attend the grounds. What if I am told they can't come anymore. This ain't right. Deborah

Comments: Hello Creek freedmen, cudos to the creater of this website. I spent all weekend reading and reading. The court cases of Harjo vs. Kleppe and Harjo vs. Andrus seem to be the key of why we are not able to enroll. It was a fight over the old system and somebody wanting a new way. The freedmen were left out completely. No where did I find anything about the freedmen or their rights per the treaty. Have anybody esle read those cases? Tulsa in the house!

Comments: Im glad to see this freedmen website. The tribe was wrong for what they did to you. Im enrolled in the tribe. I have grandchildren who are part black and would hate it if somebody treated them badly because of their skin color. I was told you freedmen were not este cate and just took our land. I never realized that my own people held some of your people as slaves. They lied to me and you. I hope the freedmen don't think we all are racist because Im Christian and fear God. My daughter sent me this link and I will give it to my church. I was told that we still had freedmen because of the black people who are enrolled in the tribe now. I thank you for helping me to know there is a difference. Sorry my english writing is not good. Billy, 15/16 Creek

Comments: My heart goes out to you all. I am also ousted by my own people. Though I have white skin, I am Cherokee. My mother was full-blood Cherokee and my father was 3/4 Cherokee and they also had white skin. But the Cherokee Nation says we do not exsist because we do not have an ancestor on their "rolls". My ancestor was left behind during the march as they passed through Missouri and her first name was lost through the years. All that is remembered is her last name was Sawney but that is not enough for them. Anyway, we are a part of the Lost Cherokee Of Missouri and Arkansas. My husband is one of our Tribal Headmen. I am an email freind of Marilyn Vann with the Cherokee Freedmen. I will be praying for you as well. Do Na Da Go Hv I

I approach all things Muscogee Creek via the family history route. I am a genealogist. If you are of Creek Nation heritage needing to bridge the connection to your Creek progenitors (both by blood & Freedmen), please contact me & I'll attempt to assist you. Comments: I believe there maybe an amendment, its been awhile since I've seen it... it included a number of older tribal rolls including the Creek Freedmen roll. I have my own opinion on the subject. I personally don't believe this is something which we could vote on. This issue was settled in the treaty of 1866. I don't believe I have a right to change a treaty by a vote. Only Congress and the President have that authority. I hope that congress stays involved because they are the final authority anyway. Oh and yes my father's paternal grandmother was Menerva Grayson. She was the daughter of Robert Grayson and Racheal Grayson.

And if it is, what are the chances of it passing? Also, what are your feelings on the Creek Freedmen? I mean as a Creek citizen. I heard you even had a great grandmother on the Creek Freedmen roll.

Comments: Creek Freedmen, the MCN constitution convention ended in a law suit brought on by the citizens of the tribe. The commissioners that representive the districts were in actual Council members, which the Creek Supreme Court found to be in violation of the constitution. So in short the whole thing had to start over again. New commissioners were selected yesterday and lets hope we have an election soon. I will keep you informed.

Comments: For researchers, the documents on this site are very good. For both freedmen and blood Creeks. You really have to be an idiot not to have read these records and still say Creek freedmen were not a part of the Creek Nation's government. It is web sites like these that are truely telling the stories. As we read in today's posted Oklahoma's newspapers, the reporters only report a tenth of the truth. Keep up the good work.

Our request for help was not back up with dollars so our message was blah blah blah to his office. Well Mr Boren, its the black citizens of eastern Oklahoma that put your butt in office. You told Mrs Vann that you were our friend, say what? You have made it clear that you think congress should stay out it. What? Congress create the problem in the first place by requiring the tribes to put freedmen on segregated rolls. We are asking you to fix congress mistakes. I look forward to the protest.

Lately the news papers have said he is siding with the nations on casinos against the interest of the state. The paper said that he got contributions from the casinos. I wonder how much has he taken from the tribes to sell the freedmen off the reservation. I feel bad for even voting for him. he won't have my vote next year. Melvin

Comments: We have now taken our claim to Washington before members of the Congressional Black Caucus and other members of Congress who will listen and understand our suffering. The plan is to get Congress to protect our rights. We have given up on members like Boren who protects the tribes (follow the money) and we are now asking members who have no political interest in Oklahoma to come to our rescue.

It was not right then and nots right today. I have cousins that work at the Creek Nation and I have more Indian blood than they do. I know its not about blood but it makes me angry anyway. My cousin told me that most of those people are mixed with other Indian tribes to give them the appearance of looking full blood Creek, but they are not. Please if congress people can help, please help. Bill

Comments: Hensci All...After briefly looking at a portion of this website I truly enjoyed the information,& history that was given. This is truly a blessn'. I am the VP of the Descendants of Freedmen of the Five Civilized Tribes Assoc., and one of the litigants in the Muscogee(Creek)Nation citizenship case, along with my cousin Fred Johnson. As you know the ruling by the MCN Supreme court,on November-2007,did not rule in our favor,& basically without any explanation, was a hard pill to swallow. I really haven't stepped out to say anything until know. First of all I want to THANK everyone who supported us,(Descendantd of Freedmen),in this case and continue to support us. There was several people testified on our,(Mr.Graham & Mr. Johnson),behalf at the judical court level,I would like to say MVTO(THANK YOU)! And two people really come to mind are Prof. Daniel Littlefield & Grant Perryman, again I truly appreciate all of your time & efforts. It took some time for me to really digest the ruling by the MCN Supreme court. But it over and done with, so we must move on, until we reach our mark, which is to restore our citizenship for all. And the way we do this is to simple come together. We must unify ourselves through education of:1.The Dawes Commission,2.The MCN Constitution,& 3.most importantly the TREATY OF 1866. So my motto is EDUCATE DON'T SEPARATE... I will have meetings on these subjects later in the year, and will gladly be informing you all on this website. I am truly makin' an effort to meet with some of the members of the MCN National Counsel again. So Mr.Allen Mitchell continue to encourage Mrs. Sharon Rentie continue to give your efforts, concerns & time. And to all ex-Muscogee(Creek) Citizens it is time to regain our citizenship...MVTO

There is a wealth of knowledge contained herein to acquaint the world with the struggle of the freedmen. My family(the McGilbrays) were made citizens of the creek nation according to the 1866 treaty and the 1867 constitution but were later voted out of the creek nation in 1979. I am seeking to regain citizenship for all freedmen who were victims of this injustice. With the help of all of you we will succeed. Mvto, Allen Mitchell
